The incoming acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell is “essentially tailor-made for the Trump era of diplomacy,” ICWA fellow Emily Schultheis (Germany, 2019-2021) tells NPR’s Ari Shapiro on All Things Considered.
As ambassador to Germany, his brash style caught the attention of Berliners from the start. “It was clear that he sought to kind of promote Trumpian politics or Trumpism abroad,” Emily says, “in ways that made the German establishment really uncomfortable.”
