China feels cautiously optimistic President-elect Joe Biden can lower—or at least pause—fast-escalating tensions between the countries, former fellow Cheng Li (China, 1993-1995) writes for Foreign Affairs.
“Relations have deteriorated at an astonishing rate during Trump’s presidency,” he writes. “The trade war has been the most conspicuous example of friction, but larger strategic tensions have also heightened the risk of conflict.”
