The social entrepreneur Anushka Ratnayake has managed to lower prices for servicing smallholder farmers in remote areas through the innovative use of SMS and mobile phone technology, former ICWA Fellow Willy Foote (Mexico, 1995-1997) writes for Forbes magazine. Ratnayake’s venture, myAgro, uses a savings-based layaway platform to enable farmers to make purchases as needed. She plans to reach a million remote rural customers by 2025.
