Carole Beaulieu is a journalist who was publisher and editor-in-chief of Quebec’s current affairs magazine L’actualité—after first joining as a reporter in 1989—until 2017. She later earned a master’s degree in law from Sherbrooke University and serves as a mediator for the Conseil de presse du Québec, teaches magazine writing at a Montreal university and raises funds for the Fonds québécois en journalisme international (FQJI), a new journalism nonprofit organization that awards short-term fellowships to send Quebec journalists abroad. As an ICWA fellow, she wrote about the countries of former French Indochina, with a focus on Vietnam, from 1992 to 1994. Carole is also a fellow of the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada and Journalists in Europe, and has won several awards for excellence from Canada’s National Magazine Awards Foundation.
